dead lions and such

For nearly two years, Once and Future Kings has gathered at my house to jam, collaborate, and experiment.  Sometimes (only sometimes), I'll admit, the thought of practice echoing throughout the house is not exactly exciting, yet I always find myself singing along, enjoying it.

The guys have been getting reviews this past week for the release of their new album, Dead Lions; while I cannot contend with some of the amazing articles summarizing their work, I will say that the album is pretty damn phenomenal.  It is also free, so you have no excuse not to get it -- right now, get it!

OFK played their album release show at Slim's Downtown this past Saturday night to a great crowd of friends, family, and newcomers.  I was personally pretty excited that The Secret Carrboro Ninja Patrol not only gave the fellas a fantastic album review, but they selected the flier I designed as "Current Favorite Concert Poster."  Thanks Secret Ninja!

The guys are already back at it again tonight practicing -- more show dates and gig fliers to come.  Meanwhile, check out Triangle Live for another superb review and if you caught an Indy last week, look for their write up in the music section.  Also, GO DOWNLOAD THE NEW ALBUM!

Currently listening to OFK, of course.  (I do listen to other bands sometimes.)

let's play catch (up)

Before I get to anything else, props are in order for the Halloween costumes I worked so hard on -- yes, four months ago!  It's been awhile and those costumes were just the beginning of a time consuming avalanche of busy-ness.  So, without further ado, Lucy in the Sky and I am the Walrus.
Like Halloween, Christmas and New Year's celebrations were great, yet passed all too quickly (though I did get to wear my dress again).  A few resolutions managed to stick around though -- clean house, collect wine, finish projects.  However,  for the past two weeks my gym resolution has been slacking and, clearly, I entirely left out resolving to update this here little blog.  Alas, today is the first of a yet another month and there's nothing wrong with a fashionably late resolution.

I have been working on quite a bit at work and home (and some work at home), so keep an eye out for some amazing photos of all of it, including an incredible booth design created for an urban chic wedding show.

Currently, I'm working on a linoleum block print and will release a limited edition print run soon.  Here's a little sneak peek.   I've got some other ideas I may be carving soon as well.

Also, we'll be signing a new lease this week, so there will be some fun decorating opportunities coming up in about a month!  Ideas are dancing all through my head, especially for my art studio/office which will be right off of our loft space where my easel will have a nice sunny home.  Oh my, I cannot wait to paint and arrange everything!

It's going to be a crazy couple of months...

it's a...live!

The yelloh! design site is up and running.  There are a couple of pages to complete, but the bones are there.  Trying to juggle a website launch and Halloween costumes after a full day of work is not necessarily a piece'o'cake.  It is, however, worth it...and very exciting.

Before I call it a night, here is a little sneak peek at my Lucy jewelry...on to sunglasses, hair clips, and a dress!  Oh my, Halloween is fast approaching.  I also have tusks to make (those are for my boyfriend's costume, which is also awesome -- I am the Walrus!).

lucy still on the ground

I decided about a week and a half ago to dress up as Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds for Halloween, and, of course, in true artistic spirit, nothing less than handcrafted will do.  I ordered a pair of amazing sunglasses from High Horse Vintage on Etsy (they came all the way from London...so awesome!), yet my dress is currently like a raincloud hanging over my head.  I've been procrastinating a little bit with it because I've been doubting my fine sewing skills, but now I only have a few days left!

I did find these lovely baubles at Ornamentea and will be crafting some diamond inspired jewelry for my costume and a flowery headband.  I'll post photos shortly...I've about got the necklaces finished.

Oh, and before I forget, yesterday I spent some time creating a flickr account.  I'll probably feature most of my images on the site and perhaps throughout the blog, but take a look if you wish.  So far, I've uploaded images of flyers I've done for OFK.  More to come soon.

Currently listening to the tv in the other room.  It's late.

sunday funday

It's fall, and while many of our fall days thus far have felt a bit more like wintery ones, today is quite nice.  As an added treat, I was surprised with Mimosas this morning...along with little sausages and toast.  Yum!

Though it is a beautiful day out, I'm trying to get some of the last kinks worked out on my new website (and this here little blog!).  I also have many other projects to be working on, but the thought of wrapping this up and having a nice new shiny pretty website to tell the world about is pretty darn exciting, and therefore, stay inside worthy, even on the sunniest of days.

The yelloh! design website will primarily be an outlet for me to showcase finished design projects and, hopefully, one day drum up more freelance work.  Most recently, I have been helping out Once and Future Kings with their website and a bit of marketing.  Working with them has given me an opportunity to experiment on various levels and has reminded me how much I enjoy the whole branding and promotional aspect of design.

While my website will show off my skills (ha!), I intend for my blog to be a fun-filled exploration into all the things that I love.  Perhaps a little bit of inspiration, some behind the scenes insight to various projects, and a few random words thrown into the mix will make for a blog that's worthy to come back to every now and then.  What do you think?

Currently listening to Once and Future Kings live -- yes, live!, they're in the other room practicing!
